Hundreds gather for ribbon cutting at LiveWell on Harrison building

FLINT, Mich. (WJRT) – Hundreds gathered downtown in Flint Monday to celebrate the opening of the LiveWell on Harrison building.
The $41 million project is the new home to the YMCA of Greater Flint and the Crim Fitness Foundation, as well as 50 apartments.
The new YMCA building boasts an indoor walking track, basketball court, and plenty of machines for working out. Members like Janet Bradsher are looking forward to the pool which is not set to open until the summer.
“I’ve been doing the water aerobics for many years throughout all the YMCAs, but I am very determined to get in this new pool come summer,” Bradsher said.
For YMCA of Greater Flint CEO Shelly Hilton, the project has been decades in the making. It brings together the YMCA with a new Hurley Rehabilitation Therapy office and the Crim Fitness Foundation to become a hub for health and wellness in the city.
“It’s been just such a huge heavy collaboration to make this all work and this is a testament to what happens when people collaborate in the City of Flint,” Hilton said.
But more than that, Hilton hopes that the new building can be the same cornerstone of the community that they were in the last location.
“Whether that’s coming in and using our Kids Zone where a parent can drop a child off for an hour so they can take a fitness class or it’s a place where a senior comes in and has coffee and has connection, this is a place for community and we hope that the community comes and feels that,” she said.
